I'm a MOM Making Money ONLINE from Home Every Day!
A Day in the Life of a Homeschooling Mom & Content Creator Working from Home (October 2025)
Hi, I’m Liezl Smith — a homeschooling mom, content creator, and online business owner. Inside The Flexible Income Club, I help women build simple, flexible online income streams that fit around family life.
But today, I want to take you behind the scenes of what a typical day looks like for me — balancing motherhood, homeschooling, and running a digital business from home here in the Netherlands.
1. My Slow Morning Routine ☕
Most mornings start quietly — with coffee in bed. My husband makes it for me before heading off to work, and honestly, it’s my favorite part of the day.
Before the kids wake up, I spend a few peaceful moments reading a Bible verse or listening to a short reflection on the Hallow app. This quiet time grounds me before the day begins.
Between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m., I start checking messages and planning my priorities for the day.
2. Morning Tasks: Coffee, Kids & Emails
Once the kids are up and the dog’s been walked (a daily ritual in Dutch life with little to no backyard!), I sit down at my computer and open my daily money-making list — the checklist that keeps my business moving forward.
At the top? My
email marketing.
Every morning, I send short promotional emails to a shared list — a task
that takes about five minutes but consistently brings in referrals and daily
income. It’s simple, but it works.
3. My Mid-Morning Work Sprint ๐ฅ
If I’m dressed and camera-ready (a.k.a. not in a Christmas sweater), I record a TikTok video.
TikTok is my
second-highest income stream, so creating at least one video per weekday is a must.
Each one takes about 30–45 minutes — from scripting to recording to editing.
Some days I batch a few videos to save time later.
I keep my work hours between 8:00 and 5:00, Monday through Friday. Evenings and weekends are family time only — that boundary keeps me present and protects my energy.
4. Balancing Work & Homeschool
After the morning business tasks, it’s time to switch gears into homeschool mode.
My son starts with his schoolwork while I prepare breakfast. He’s quite independent these days — currently obsessed with learning new recipes and perfecting his homemade meatloaf.
After lunch, it’s usually my daughter’s turn. We work on crafts and creative projects together. Lately we’ve been crocheting adorable characters using an app called Ribblr — perfect for anyone learning amigurumi (crocheted stuffed animals).
We balance structured lessons with fun, hands-on projects that keep learning exciting.
5. Afternoon Flow & Business Boundaries
By mid-afternoon, I often revisit my to-do list, respond to messages, and review what’s left for the day.
One big lesson I’ve learned in this journey:
“Don’t be available 24/7.”
In my early days online, I’d reply to every DM immediately — even at night. Now I set clear office hours and use auto-responders so people get instant replies even when I’m offline.
It’s a game changer for maintaining balance and peace of mind.
6. Evenings: Dinner, Downtime & Netflix
By 4:00 p.m., I start cooking dinner. My husband loves coming home to a warm meal, and it’s one of my favorite ways to show love.
After dinner, my phone goes off. Evenings are sacred — we relax as a family, maybe watch Netflix (recently, a Korean cooking-time-travel drama!), and enjoy being together before bedtime.
7. How I Keep My Business Simple
You might be wondering, “How do you get it all done?”
Here’s the truth — I don’t do everything, just what matters:
-
✅ Send one income-generating email per day
-
✅ Record one TikTok video
-
✅ Keep weekends free for family
-
✅ Batch content when I’m feeling creative
That’s roughly 45 minutes of focused work daily that keeps my business profitable.
Beyond that, I follow my energy. Some days I’m super productive; other days, I give myself grace to slow down. That’s the beauty of a flexible income business — it bends with your life, not the other way around.
8. Looking Ahead
October is shaping up beautifully. We have a family trip to Ireland coming up, and the fourth quarter’s already looking strong — both personally and financially (hello, rising Bitcoin prices!).
It’s not glamorous, but it’s deeply fulfilling — a mix of faith, family, and freedom.
